Our Programs

Team Leader Message

RCDC believes that no one external to a community can bring people out of the impoverished condition in which they live. RCDC argues that while people have their rights to lead a dignified life in their soil of birth, they do have their responsibility to contribute to the nation. While the Governments that have the mandate of the people to govern the nation has the responsibility to ensure that the people’s basic needs are met to assure their full human potential, they do have the rights to expect people’s contribution to the nation building process. RCDC also believes that people living in impoverished condition know what their needs are and what they can do to improve their lot and thus what is expected of NGOs is only to guide and support the people in their self-managed development process. RCDC considers its role to be one of, ‘facilitating’, ‘empowering’. In short, RCDC does not work for people in poverty; It works with the people in poverty; RCDC does not implement programmes for people but it helps people identify their situation state of affairs and analyze factors attributable to the same, analyze and determine their priorities, develop some aspirations in life, analyze and determine their options and plan and make efforts to realize their aspiration. In the process, RCDC would support and complement the community efforts in their development process. Whereas, RCDC believe that they (RCDC) need to participate in community developed and community managed programme. This radical thinking led to completely different attitudes and approaches in working with the people living in poverty. Such attitudes aim at people ownership of developmental process and not the NGO. RCDC’s attitutudes and approaches would not be implementing what RCDC thinks are the best for the people and forcing the people to accept what is offered but assisting and supporting the people in realizing what their(people ) informed needs are. RCDC translates this philosophy in to action where they take the people through an empowering, thinking and analytical process and leading to people making their informed choices. RCDC takes them through the process of such informed decision making on their priority needs and giving its hands to them as they make efforts towards their informed choices. RCDC has been successfully experimenting its choice of catalyst role as indicated by significant success achieved by the people.

Thank you
